Wanda Veltkamp (Raven)
Biography

Using the play of light and dark on shapes and colors, the painter Wanda Veltkamp’s latest works reveal richly textured and colored landscapes and snapshots of the Southwest and the places where she has traveled. Whether in a rolling landscape or jutting rocks of everyday scenes, the artist’s intense colors and strong composition reflect the world around her.

Born in the midwest, Wanda Veltkamp’s journey in art began at an early age with “paint by numbers” and correspondence lessons drawing animals. She sought more formal training at the local Art Center, area colleges and with the late Jim Goff, a known midwestern watercolor artist.

She received a degree in Art Education from Iowa State University and Morningside University.

In her midwestern life, she raised a family and began her art career in earnest,
concentrating in oil and watercolor mediums. She was involved with and shown in the Sioux City Art Center and the Gallery of the Siouxland Artists. She served as president of the Siouxland Artist Association. She was a frequent exhibitor in the area.

A move to South Dakota added the Connecting Artist Group and the Yankton Artist Association to her list of involvements. The Yankton GAR Gallery hosted her solo show. Wanda now calls Colorado Springs her home. She is a member of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, the Manitou Art Center, which hosted her solo show, and the Colorado Springs Art Guild, where she is a frequent exhibitor. Her work is currently being shown at Art One Eleven in Colorado Springs  and the Manitou Art Center In Manitou Springs.

Wanda's travels have taken her to many countries and extensively around the United States. She garners inspiration from those travels and from her “backyard” landscapes of Colorado Springs where she now lives. “The scenery is incredible, inspiring: the mountains, Garden of the Gods, the high plains… I now live in the middle of some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Talk about inspiring.”

The artist invites you to travel with her in her paintings. Enjoy the colors, textures and beauty of our planet.
